"Before I went to the NZ Welding school I was an Industrial Abseiler working in factories and on towers often helping welders get to where they needed
to be. I decided to go to NZ welding school so I could go back to Abseiling with some new skills and get more job opportunities. While at NZ welding school I learned a lot a skills almost all of which I use every day. My favourite thing about the NZ Welding school is the diversity and sheer amount of skills they teach in such a short time.
One thing that really helped me while I was at the NZ Welding school was the diversity of things to do. Every time I got frustrated or stumped I could always stop and work on a different exciting project. Two days after graduating from NZ Welding school I started my apprenticeship in General Engineering for Machine part Welding - doing anything from fixing a broken Exercycle to extensive maintenance on large heavy machinery."

Roxy Hawkins

Roxy wanted to extend her mechanics & engineering skills to give her more job opportunities. "There have been some great opportunities for women in the workforce through NZ Welding School.  I have not even finished my welding course yet and I have already been offered a job in agricultural fabrication & welding when I get my Level 4 welding tickets. It has boosted my confidence and opened up so many doors of opportunity."

"Before I started at the NZ Welding School I was studying at Papakura high school. I came to NZWS so I could become a qualified welder and to use the qualification to get a good job.

The best thing about the welding school is you get to meet a lot of great people and the tutors there really supported me and helped me out.

I graduated with my NZQA level 3 & my advanced level 4. I've been employed for 7 months now and I’m working in Ormiston in Otara, working on repairing concrete-mixer trucks and on-site at concrete plants and I'm really enjoying it."

"It was the qualifications for me, and the short amount of time needed to get real skills and a good job. The variety of skills & techniques I've learned have definitely opened doors for me. The NZ Welding School tutors were a great help. I found results at NZWS. I've got experience. I've up-skilled and landed myself a great job. I asked for work experience and was given all the support I needed to find a great job."

"Before I came to NZ Welding School I was getting into a lot of trouble. I wasn’t enrolled in any high school because I kept getting kicked out. I went to NZWS because I wanted to stay out of trouble and keep my mum happy and most of all I wanted to become a welder.

All the people and the vibes that were around everyone was cool, calm and collective which made things a lot of fun. The tutors played a big part in helping me, they basically got me to where I am now. I’m currently working in Christchurch as a heavy structural Steel Welder and it has been a long fun ride."

"I want to become an underwater welder. I've done the Level 2 and now rolled over into the Level 3 course. I come from a family of engineers and thought this would be a good career path. The staff at NZWS are awesome 10/10! I am not a good theory person but with the guidance and support I've got they helped me to succeed. I have way more confidence now with people and all the welding processes. I am still studying at NZWS and know they will help me to achieve my dream."

"I dropped out of school in year 11. My mum convinced me to look at the welding school in Rotorua. We drove to the school for a look as we live in Hamilton. I enrolled into the Youth Guarantee class and graduated in June 2015. I then completed Level 3 Welding and Fabrication October 2015 and then the Advanced Level 4 programme and graduated February 2016.

The staff here have been amazing. They have been with me every step helping me and sharing their knowledge and advice. The highlights at NZWS for me has been meeting all the good mates that I know today and getting lots of practical experience & skills. NZWS arranged job interviews and I was offered 2 jobs. Not long into my engineering job in Taupo I was offered an apprenticeship. Awesome!

"I was heading down the wrong track in Putaruru - I needed to change my future and get a decent job!

NZWS supported me all the way - and I received the Level 4 top student award and passed my welding tickets! I had lots of support and opportunities whilst I studied at NZWS. They even arranged two interviews for me as well. I rejected the first job offer and decided on the 2nd job at an engineering company. The tutors and admin staff at NZWS gave me so much support and they have given me so much confidence. I now work in Rotorua as a full-time welder & fabricator doing a range of different things every day which I really enjoy."

"Initially I wanted to be an automotive technician. I tinker a lot with cars in my spare time.

I did the Level 3 Welding and Fabrication course in Rotorua and the tutors in both courses helped me to improve my skills so much. NZWS also helped me to write a C.V and send it to several companies for me. Finishing all my workshop exercises and theory papers was the highlight for me and I now have the skills for my hobby projects. I am now a working as a welder and fabricator for a 3 month trial period with the hope to be offered a contract with them."

"I love the NZ Welding School. Seriously, it's an awesome place. I have made great friends and the staff & tutors are just like your mates too. I am doing the Levels 3 and then I will do the Level 4 Advanced course. My dream is to go overseas, get my scuba diving tickets and become an underwater welder on the rigs. Welding is opening up so many opportunities for me. It's exciting."

Student15 Majid

Majid Babu

Majid travelled from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to complete the National Certificate in Welding. Majid is 32, married with a 4 year old son. Prior to moving to NZ Majid was working for a financial institution.

He's had practical & industry experience in Dubai and India, but wanted the theory accreditation/qualifications. He looked at welding courses in Canada but found their courses longer and the climate colder. New Zealand was the better destination!

Majid found NZ Welding School Student Services very helpful, friendly and supportive with excellent course tutors. Majid feels the course is more than he expected and he is very happy with his decision to do the 14 week course to get the New Zealand qualification and also have the opportunity to sit and get his professional welding tickets.
