New Zealand Certificate in Welding (Level 3)

Course Overview

In this 16 week course you’ll be able to gain the foundation knowledge and skills for the booming welding industry. You will be able to get into the workforce or Specialised Welding Level 4.

What You Learn

  • Health & Safety, job ergonomics and risk assessment
  • Safe use of tools, machinery and equipment
  • Industry related projects welding in ARC, MIG, Flux and Tig processes
  • Industry terminology, communication and problem solving
  • Identify and repair defects
  • Calculations, measurements and interpretation
  • Workplace documentation, study and career goals

What You Will Get

You will gain the New Zealand Certificate in Welding (Level 3), worth 60 NZQA credits. This programme is delivered through BOP Welding School PTE and is an NZQA approved qualification.

Why Study With Us

  • We will assist you with work or apprenticeship placement post study
  • You will complete a Site Safe Passport

Entry Requirements

  • We need you to be physically able to complete workshop activities.
  • You need to have reasonable numeracy and literacy skills.
  • You need to be 18 years old or over
  • Visa conditions also apply, please discuss this with our team

Fees

$12,710 including GST. Includes all safety clothing.

You can also complete our Welding Level 3 course part-time.

This night class option is great for students that are working or have commitments to attend to during the day.

Duration: 23 weeks | Training Days: Monday to Thursday 6pm to 9:15pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm (class times may differ between campuses).

New Zealand Certificate in Welding (Level 4)

Course Overview

In this 16 week course you’ll advance your existing welding skills and spend time in our ‘real-world’ workshop to gain up to four industry-recognised Welding tickets and your New Zealand Certificate in Welding Level 4.

What You Learn

  • Complete welding projects using – MMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW
  • Identify purpose and application of welding regulations in the NZ fabrication industry
  • Complete work plans independently and collaboratively
  • Present welds to industry standards for certification
  • Critique and define essential criteria of specialised weld testing
  • Communicate quality assurance measures and corrective actions
  • Work within a team to improve quality and consistency of welds
  • Create a work portfolio of specialised welds using a range of welding processes
  • Composition and Characteristics of engineering metals
  • Workplace documentation – Policies, procedures, compliance requirements
  • Identify and repair defects
  • Engineering drawings and sketches
  • Calculations relating to MMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW processes
  • Effective teamwork, communication and problem solving skills
  • Health and Safety, job ergonomics and risk assessment
  • Industry terminology and workplace numeracy
  • Safe use of tools, machinery and equipment
  • Setting learning and employment goals
  • Industry related tasks

What You Will Get

You will gain the New Zealand Certificate in Welding (Level 4), worth 62 NZQA credits. This programme is delivered through BOP Welding School PTE and is an NZQA approved qualification.

Fees

$14,710 including GST. Includes all safety clothing.

You can also complete our Specialised Welding course part-time.

This night class option is great for students that are working or have commitments to attend to during the day.

Duration: 21 weeks | Training Days: Monday to Thursday 6pm to 9:20pm, Saturday 8am to 4:30pm (class times may differ between campuses).

Pipe Welding (Level 4)

Course Overview

Our comprehensive Pipe Welding course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, techniques, and practical experience necessary to excel in the pipe welding field.

What You Learn

  • Understand and interpret industry standard pipe spooling drawings

  • Read and understand WPS as it applies to completing an ASME IX pipe weld
  • Understand and apply basic pipe fabrication techniques
  • Use of industry equipment
  • Job planning and basic measurements and calculations
  • Understand and apply pipe welding terminology in practice
  • Identify materials used and understand material weldability
  • Understand visual inspection requirements
  • Introduction to ASME IX standard and its requirements
  • Introduction to hot work permits, Health & Safety and third-party inspection (TPI)
  • Good understanding of MMAW and GTAW processes required

What You Will Get

You will gain the ASME IX welding ticket – should you pass testing

Entry Requirements

  • New Zealand Certificate in Welding (Level 4)

    OR

  • Equivalent qualification or skills (trade test to be completed to assess equivalent industry skills)
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older
